SISTER CITIES The City of Renton works in partnership with the nonprofit Renton Sister Cities Association and volunteer Renton-Nishiwaki Sister City Committee to coordinate events and activities. Renton's Sister City relationship with Nishi- waki began in 1969 when a Sister City alliance with Nishiwaki, Japan, was forged by the Renton Lions Club with support of other civic organizations to promote mutual understand- ing and good will between the United States and Japan. In 1994, the Renton City Council passed a resolution establishing an official City of Renton Sister City Program and the Rent- on-Nishiwaki Sister City Committee. The Washington–Hyogo, Japan Sister-State asso- ciation strengthens the relationship between Renton and Nishiwaki. October 16–19, 2019, Renton will welcome a citizen's delegation and dignitaries in celebra- tion of the 50th Anniversary. To get involved or to learn more about the Renton-Nishiwaki Sister City program, contact volunteer Chair- man Chris Johnson at chris5255@gmail.com or 425-381-7069. 50 Years of Friendship 2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Renton and Nishiwaki, Japan.
