COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT 28 RENTONWA.GOV Michael Harris VOLUNTEER A solid foundation was built for Mia and Paige Harris at the Renton Community Center Preschool, followed by art, cooking, dance, yoga and gymnastics classes and T-ball. Then came basketball which is where dad, Michael Harris jumped in with both feet as a volun- teer coach! "Basketball has become a household favorite," states Michael. Michael has been coaching for three years and last year he coached both of his daughters' teams. "Sports are a way for kids to come together and have fun learning and exercising," states Michael. "I create a positive environment for kids to learn teamwork, build friendships and build a strong work ethic. Hearing par- ents say that their kid can't wait to come back to practice is one of the best feeling." We feel lucky to have volunteer coaches like Michael as a part of our Renton Recreation program. Thank you to Michael for giving his time and heart to the families in our community! Chris & Dave RESIDENTS Known throughout the community and beloved by many, Chris & Dave embody the spirit of Renton… Unique / Active / Wel- coming. Buddies since their 20's, the two grew up in Renton and have filled their life with work in the city, Adaptive Recreation field trips, senior excursions, and most of all, friendship. This dynamic duo has been participating in Renton recreation and Adaptive Rec pro- gramming for more than 30 years and has traveled nationally representing our city at the Special Olympics! Whether it be soft- ball, golf, bowling or cycling, these two are strong competitors, but even stronger team mates. They are there for each other and anyone else who needs a cheer or high five. "We've known each other since we were kids and we would ride our bikes and walk together," says Chris. This friendship forged through Renton Rec has bridged the decades and these two continue to share the love throughout the city! "The Renton Community Center has been a staple in our family for many years. We look forward to many more."
