REPA is a partnership between the City of Renton and Renton Technical College providing courses to help people prepare for emergencies. Group presentations upon request, 15 person minimum. Visit rentonwa.gov/repa. Renton Emergency Preparedness Academy EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS Basics of Fermentation Ages 13 & up, minors must be accompanied by an adult. This workshop will provide you with a basic working knowledge of how to brine ferment vegetables. The kefir fermentation of dairy products will also be demonstrated. Bring your own knives, all other materials are provided. In partnership with Sustainable Renton, a $5 donation is encouraged but not required. Renton Tech. College , I-101 (Demo kitchen) Classes: 1 Feb 4 Tue 6–7:30pm 7620 Mental Health First Aid Ages 16 and up, minors must be accompanied by an adult. You might know how to do CPR or the Heimlich Maneuver, but did you know you are more likely to encounter someone experiencing a mental health crisis than in need of physical first aid? This class teaches you to give the initial help to a person showing symptoms of mental illness or in a mental health crisis until appropriate professional or other help can be engaged. This class is offered through a partnership with Valley Cities Behavioral Health Care. Renton Tech. College, C111 Classes: 1 Feb 22 Sat 8am–5pm 7621 Preparedness Made Easy Ages 13 and up, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Does preparing for an emergency seem like a bigger potential disaster than anything mother nature could throw at you? Would you rather face an earthquake than try to figure out what should be in your bug out bag? This class will focus on quick, affordable, and practical ways you can get prepared for emergencies. Come learn some seriously easy steps you can take to get ready for just about anything. Renton Tech. College, C111 Classes: 1 Mar 12 Thur 6:30–7:30pm 7622 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Ages 16 and up, minors must be accompanied by an adult. In most disasters, survivors provide the first immediate assistance to those in need. CERT teaches you how to respond when others look to you for help. Are you ready? Learn skills like disaster first aid, fire suppression, utility safety, personal preparedness, light search and rescue, terrorism response, disaster psychology, and more in lecture and hands on training. June 6 course will feature a disaster simulation from 8am-12pm in which participants will display their skills and receive a certificate.
