4 | Register for recreation programs online at Android Smart Phone Those of you who've never had a smart- phone before may find navigating the cell phone a challenge at first. While there are many dif ferent versions of Android with manufacturers putting their own software alongside Android. The look and feel of the cell phone can be different. There are some basic begin- ner's tips that everyone can use to master Android. You will learn how to turn the phone off and on, turn the screen off and on, navigation basics, setting up home screens, making and receiving phone calls, adding to your contact list, text messaging, and navigating the var- ious applications that come with the phone along with some suggestions on what applications to download from Google's Play Store. Please bring your smart phone if you have one (not iPhone or Windows phone). A Google account is recommended such as Gmail. This is a three-week class. 60502 Thur Oct 19–Nov 2 9:30–11:30am 60503 Thur Dec 14–Dec 28 12:30–2:30pm CMP $28R / $34NR Computer Chaos Do you find it frustrating to find files you have saved or maybe your desktop just has too many files or shortcuts on it? What about when you go to down- load a document or trying to save one and cannot figure out where it goes. Clean up your computer and learn how keep it organized by using the tool that Windows provides called File Explorer. Uses include browsing or searching the contents of disks, folders and libraries, opening files, deleting files and folders, renaming them, copying and moving them around, and creating new fold- ers. You will learn how to organize your computer in no time. Prerequisite: basic computer skills. This is a one-week class. 60528 Wed Nov 1 9:30–11:30am 60529 Thur Dec 7 12:30–2:30pm CMP $15R / $18NR Facebook Facebook is a social networking site that makes it easy for you to connect and share with your family and friends online. You may already have a Facebook account or are interested in creating an account. What makes Facebook unique is the ability to connect and share with the people you care about at the same time. You will learn how to create an account, create a page, add photos, create friends or family contacts, and manage your timeline and news feed. You will learn how to keep your Facebook secure and manage your privacy settings and posts on your Timeline. Prerequisite: Internet and computer basics. This is a three- week class. 60504 Tues Oct 31–Nov 14 9:30–11:30am 60505 Mon Dec 4–Dec 18 12:30–2:30pm CMP $28R / $34NR Introduction to Computers Are you new to computers or need a refresher course on how to use them? In this course, you will learn the very basics of computers by learning how to use mouse skills, basic keyboard skills, and some basic computer terminology. You will learn how to navigate around what you see on the monitor (desktop) by using Microsoft Windows. You will learn how to use the software that is on the computer including how to access the help system and how to navigate the file system where the things you want to keep are stored. You will learn how to access and browse the internet. Included in this course are basic maintenance and safety precautions for the computer. This is a four-week class. No class Dec 26. 60500 Tues Nov 7–Nov 28 12:30–2:30pm 60501 Tues Dec 5–Jan 2 12:30–2:30pm CMP $37R / $45NR Introduction to Computers II Move on from the basics to get a deeper understanding of your computer. After a quick review, you will be introduced to the various settings and tools that are available with Microsoft Windows. As an example, we will look at security, connecting to a printer, power settings (mainly for a laptop), changing desktop background, changing your mouse set- tings, adding another profile (user), and accessing settings which let you optimize the visual and audio to improve what you can see or hear. Prerequisites are Introduction to Computers or knowl- edge of basic computer skills. This is a two-week class. Renton Librarian Peter Cole will give a tour of the catalog and the digital, downloadable collec- tion of books, audiobooks, movies and magazines. After a virtual tour and a chance to ask your questions, 30 minute 1-on-1, hands- on sessions will be scheduled to help you get started downloading to your Kindle, iPad, tablet or smartphone. Come prepared with your device, your ques- tions, library card and PIN number. Kindle users will also need their Amazon login.
