4 | Register for recreation programs online at rentonwa.gov/cybersignup Android Smartphone Those of you who've never had a smart- phone before may find navigating the cell phone a challenge at first. While there are many different versions of the Android OS, manufacturers also put their own software alongside it. The look and feel of the cell phone can be different. There are some basic be- ginner's tips that everyone can use to master their Android Smart phone. You will learn how to turn the phone off and on, turn the screen off and on, navigate basics, set up home screens, make and receive phone calls, add to your con- tact list, text messages, and navigate the various applications that come with the phone along with some sugges- tions on what applications to download from Google's Play Store. Please bring your smart (not an iPhone or Windows phone). An email account using Gmail is recommended. This is a three-week class. 60858 Wed Mar 14–28 9:30–11:30am CMP $28R / $34NR Computer Chaos Do you find it frustrating to find files you have saved? Or maybe your desktop just has too many files or shortcuts on it? What about when you want to down- load a document, or try to save one, and cannot figure out where to put it. Clean up your computer and learn how keep it organized by using the tool that Win- dows provides called File Explorer. Uses include browsing or searching the con- tents of disks, folders and libraries, opening files, deleting files and folders, renaming them, copying and moving them around, and creating new fold- ers. You will learn how to organize your computer in no time. Prerequisite: basic computer skills. COMPUTER CLASSES TAUGHT BY JERRY MILLER Cyber Security With all the security breaches in the news today, it is important to keep your computer and mobile devices secure. There are easy to use tools to manage your passwords (so you do not have to remember them), making them secure. The bad guys will attempt to exploit your personal information from you or hack your accounts. They could also use your device unknowingly as a host to wreak havoc elsewhere. We will cover the best practices for personal securi- ty, internet safety (including email) and keeping your devices secure. You can rest assured after this class that you will be safe using the internet, using your computer or mobile device. Prereq- uisite: basic computer skills. This is a one-week class. 60839 Wed Jan 17 9:30–11:30am 60840 Wed Feb 14 9:30–11:30am 60841 Thur Mar 8 12:30–2:30pm CMP $15R / $18NR Email The course will give you an under- standing of web-based email programs focusing on the more popular pro- grams like Microsoft's Outlook.com and Google's Gmail. You will learn how to set up an account and password secu- rity. You will learn how to send email, open email, at tach documents or images to emails, create contacts, navi- gate your folders such as the inbox, sent emails, junk or spam, deleted, drafts, and create folders to store emails that you may want to save. There are basic safety guidelines to keep you safe when using email. With increased technolo- gy, having these accounts are vital when using newer operating systems such as Windows 10 and Android smart phones. Prerequisite: internet basics, computer basics. This is a two-week class. 60842 Thur Jan 18–25 9:30–11:30am 60843 Wed Feb 21–28 9:30–11:30am CMP $23R / $28NR Facebook Facebook is a social networking site that makes it easy for you to connect and share with your family and friends online at the same time. You may al- ready have a Facebook account or are interested in creating one. You will learn how to create an account, create a page, add photos, create friends or family contacts, and manage your time- line and news feed. You will learn how to keep your Facebook secure, and how to manage your privacy settings and posts on your Timeline. Prerequisite: Internet and computer basics. This is a three- week class. 60860 Tues Feb 13–27 12:30–2:30pm 60861 Wed Mar 14–28 12:30–2:30pm CMP $28R / $34NR Introduction to Computers In this course, you will learn the very basics of computers by learning how to use mouse skills, basic keyboard skills, and basic computer terminology. You will learn how to navigate what you see on the monitor (desktop) by using the Microsoft Windows 10. You will learn how to use the software that is on the computer, and how to navigate the file system where your things you want to keep are stored. You will learn how to access and browse the internet. Includ- ed in this course are basic maintenance and safety precautions for the comput- er.
